Editor’s Note

During the 6th Enlarged Plenary Session of the 8th WPK Central Committee, Chairman Kim Jong Un declared that the international relations structure had shifted to a new Cold War system. However, while North Korea openly supports Russia, China has not taken a clear stance on the war in Ukraine. Instead, China has proposed mediation, revealing subtle differences in their positions. EAI has published a series of commentaries comprehensively analyzing the positions of the United States, China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea regarding the new Cold War narrative promoted by North Korea. Recognizing the complex and divergent strategic calculations underlying the seemingly close relationship between North Korea, China, and Russia, six experts examine the perceptions of neighboring countries concerning North Korea's narrative and present their outlook on the direction of the international order surrounding the Korean Peninsula that will unfold in the future.
