Chaesung Chun, Chair of the EAI’s National Security Research Center and Professor at Seoul National University, highlights that despite growing fatigue and skepticism regarding the possibility of North Korea's denuclearization, the DPRK would not be able to sustain its current stance on denuclearization due to its strained economy, the doomed fate of its new Cold War policy, and the diminishing utility of nuclear weapons in light of technological advancements. Chun emphasizes the negative implications of ROK's nuclear armament, urging South Korea instead to establish a clear vision for the Korean Peninsula in the short, mid, and long term. This vision should ultimately convey to North Korea that denuclearization is not a path to collapse but a shortcut to economic development while keeping the regime intact.
